My Health Journey
I can relate with all the confusion, fear, ambivalence, loneliness and frustration that comes with chronic illness because I was there! In the early 2000’s, I started to experience a bunch of weird symptoms (i.e. skin rashes that landed me in the emergency room, hair loss, headaches, unrelenting fatigue, and very little patience) resulting in depression, relationship woes and self-esteem issues. My son was about five, and my family and I experienced the tragic and sudden loss of my mother. I had no idea that the symptoms I had could be the result of the shock, stress, grief and neglected self-care I underwent. My physical manifestations were definitely annoying, but the way they affected the rest of my life had profound consequences on me and those around me. Conventional doctors just gave me prescription after prescription, but nothing changed. Then, with the help of some kind, integrative practitioners, many sessions with my very patient psychotherapist, TONS of research, and lots of trial and error with self-care, I’ve been able to manage my mental and physical health in a way that works for me. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition (Hashimoto’s thyroiditis), and after over a decade I've fine-tuned what my body needs. I know how to handle the symptoms now. If I experience other odd signals, I have the confidence, know-how, resources and support to figure it out, and get back to a happy baseline.


About Me
When people ask me what my nationality is, I always say, "I'm proudly Filipino on the outside, and on the inside I'm equally ecstatic to be red, white and blue!" Born in the Philippines and raised in NYC and the suburbs of Northern VA, I moved to the beautiful southwest in the mid-'90's, and I can't imagine calling any other place home. I love the mountains, the weather (yes, even the frigid temperatures and snow), and enjoy the glorious sunrises and breathtaking sunsets on a mellow walk or casual hike. I treasure connection with my sweet husband, thriving adult son, dear friends and my two adorable canines. Experimenting with nutrient-dense recipes in the kitchen is a joy. Feeding the ones I love with those creations is even more delightful. Handwork (i.e. knitting, crocheting, etc) and crafting brings me calm and replenishes my energy. I was diagnosed with osteopenia in 2022, and since then I've been working hard to reverse the trend of bone loss that I know would be detrimental for me as I age. Now, you can find me strength training in my home gym almost every day. My goal is to someday deadlift my own weight, and I'm proud to say, I'm over halfway there! :-) You will also find me (and my hubby and doggos) on the road in our #vanlife Ford Transit cruising the US highways, checking off our list of US National Parks!
My Vision as your Health Coach and Nutrition Counselor
Autonomy is such a powerful human quality; it’s the power to choose. We all have it, and when we feel stuck, we feel as if we have no autonomy. The truth is, we are given the gift to choose in every moment. Even doing nothing is a choice. The only reason we may feel choiceless is because we are not aware of any other option. That’s where education and information play such a vital role. How can you choose something if you don’t know what it is?
So my hope as your Health Coach and Nutrition Counselor is that through the power of education and your own insights through experimentation, you’ll awaken the freedom you forgot to make informed choices that are right for you. You won’t feel stuck; you’ll get curious. You’ll discover the skills to research options when you remain curious. A go-to plan of learning will come naturally when your life situation calls for needing to know more. In this way, our work together could have long lasting, far reaching implications. Health Coaching could be life-changing as you take charge of navigating your wellbeing through the forward-looking lens of living longer in optimal health.
My goal is that through working with me, you’ll learn so much– about yourself, about how your body works, about what your body needs, how to meet and advocate for those needs– that eventually, you won’t have to work with me anymore!
